I think they have us confused with someone else:

Blizzard watch in effect from Saturday afternoon through
Sunday morning...

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a blizzard
watch... which is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday
morning.

Snow will begin during Saturday afternoon... and become heavy at times
Saturday night. Northeast winds will also increase Saturday night to
25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph... causing blizzard conditions
along with considerable blowing and drifting of snow.

By the time the snow ends Sunday morning... accumulations should
average 8 to 12 inches... with locally higher amounts possible.
The highest totals are most likely to occur in and near New York
City... and across western Long Island.

A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling and or
blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities.
This can lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very dangerous.

This is new. I thought we might get some flurries, but... 8"-12"?! DAMN!

Must be time to buy milk, eggs & bread. Or my version, which is wine, cheese & cigarettes.

this storm has been baffling the local meteorologists. They werent really sure about it until yesterday, and i think a couple of them still have their doubts.

I find it funny that your reports put the highest totals near the western side of things, where as the reports I'm getting up here put the highest totals towards the eastern side of the state.. New London area and such.

Anyway.. yea - WTF is up with the whole buying milk thing. I always thought it was kind of a joke, but seriously, if there is any storm forecasted, the milk shelves are BARE at the grocery store.

Do people really think that if they REALLY need milk that badly, they won't be able to get it for 3 weeks or something?

A baffled meteorologist... that amuses me ;)

As far as provisions go, I do not get it, at *all*. Do they think it's going to be like the '78 ice storm? Even if we lost power, these are pretty modern times, they get things back up and running quick. Besides, I would rather just hang out & drink if it really gets that bad.

I hear ya, I just read that alert too. Go blame Puxatawny phil or somethin. This winter has just been teasing us so far. Was just a matter before it decided to dump its wad on us. Milk, eggs, and bread...hmm, french toast? I'll be right there! lol..
Oh, by the way, what was up with the post in my lj about the superbowl? something about crying? Didn't get it. Anyway, hope things are ok with you. Just now getting to check my friends list and update.
